Redflex Traffic Systems, the company responsible for the red light traffic cameras, has avoided being charged by the Department of Justice. The agreement is due to the fact that company has been extremely cooperative with the government in recent years. The company’s cooperation included the prosecution of former CEO Karen Finley, who was sentenced in November for conspiracy to commit bribery. In exchange for the cooperation, federal prosecutors agreed not to pursue charges in the cases going on in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio , where the company also runs the red light program. The company will pay an undisclosed amount in restitution and damages in those cities.
I agree that Redflex needs to accept personal responsibility for the scandal, but I don’t see any real resolution happening. This scandal has affected people and I am glad that people are being sent to jail because of it.
